The voice of the Bat!

What's with the sudden hoopla about Batman's low, scruffy voice in The Dark Knight? I believe even non-fans of superheroes and comic books can put 2 & 2 together and figure out why Bruce Wayne speaks the way he does dressed as The Batman.

Right way to do the Batman voice: Michael Keaton in the beginning of the first Batman movie, grabbing a thug and telling him (low, raspy, foreboding) "I'm Batman."

Wrong way to do the Batman voice: George Clooney (complete with rubber nipples and a bat-credit card) announcing to Mr. Freeze (in George Clooney's normal voice) "Hello, Freeze. I'm Batman."

Face it, folks. Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale got it right when it comes to the Caped Crusader.
